Ambrogio Robot Mower – with NO Perimeter Wire?

Do you want a robotic lawn mower system that doesn’t require you to set up a perimeter wire? The Ambrogio Robot Mower has a super easy installation that you’ll love!

How the Ambrogio L60 Works Without a Perimeter Wire:

Compared to other self-mowing devices, the L60 Elite can sense the humidity of the grass. As a result, it can tell the difference between concrete curbs, stones and hard landscaping.

In addition, it has a “drop-off sensor” that helps it discern curbs. It is smart enough to back up without needing a perimeter wire to keep it from wandering off. Check out the video for more info:

All that said, your lawn will need at least a 7-inch space surrounding it in order to “notify” the Ambrogio to slow down. If you don’t have that boundary, simply create one with small rocks or non-organic material to create that 7″ space.

Plus, if the lawn mower does accidentally run into an object, it will back away. It has a handy “obstacle sensor” just for this reason.

Note: The L60 cannot handle extra large lawns, like the 2-acre Ambrogio L350i. However, if your lawn size measures less than 1/4 acre, this automower will work just fine.

The Advantage of an Automower with 4WD:

The L60 Elite has a nice advantage over many other automowers in that it can handle steeper terrains. In fact, it can traverse hills with up to 50% inclines because it has 4 wheel drive.

So, if you live on a hill and have a sloped lawn, you aren’t out of luck. This robot mower will likely work for you.

Mow Your Lawn While You Sleep:

The L60 robotic mower operates so quietly that you can schedule it to run at night. In other words, it won’t disrupt you or your neighbors.

Get Free Fertilizer:

Similar to other robotic mowers, the Ambrogio L60 mulches the cut grass for you. It disperses the tiny cut pieces back into your lawn that act as fertilizer.

Not only do you not have to dispose of the cuttings after each mow, you get a healthier, more lush lawn without having to buy fertilizer. Save money and time!

Is the Ambrogio Robotic Mower a Good Value?

As far as price goes, the L60 Elite runs mid-range between other models that have equal area coverage. For example, the Robomow costs between $1600-1700, while the Rob 1000 costs around $1100.

Disadvantages of the L60 Elite Mower

Manual Recharge:

The downside of this unit is that you’ll need to manually recharge it. The mower doesn’t come with its own charging station that it drives itself onto.

However, if you have a 1/8 acre lot and mow it once a week, you only need to do this task one time per week. For example, you can set up the charger conveniently by a back door and simply reach out and plug it in. (The robot finds its way back tot he charger by itself.)

Blocked GPS Signal with Wire-Free Automowers in General:

Wire-free robots typically use GPS-RTK. (The robot plus a refining antenna need an open sky line of site view to the satellite.) However, the GPS signal gets blocked by buildings and trees. As a result, you can end up with un-mowed grass under tree canopies.

In addition, some units use 4G communication, which must be present everywhere in the yard. This may (or may not) result in un-mowed grass next to buildings. The technologies use multiple satellites to try and overcome the issue, which helps, but is not guaranteed. (This explains why when you see actual (non-marketing) videos of GPS robots, they are mowing open fields.)

The L60 uses humidity sensors instead of the perimeter wire. You can create a 10″ wide border with river rock or another non-organic material. The robot will detect it and reverse its direction. It also detects curbs and can bump into objects.

Alternatively, if you have a yard with several potential obstructions, you may want to take a look at the Ambrogio Twenty ZR and install a perimeter wire (sold separately). You can see 3 different installation methods in this book.

Some manufacturers are trying to use cameras and other sensors to overcome the GPS problems. However, these technologies don’t keep the robot out of your neighbor’s yard when you don’t have a fence/border.
